Neomesis sp (Thank you wheat for the id, was still bugging me after 10 years), caused me to tear down a 16 yo tank.

Tried to google becomes is sp, but what you named didn’t come up. I have this growing from a rock I got a coral on, asked lfs but they couldn’t identify. I thought it was just some kind of sponge but if bad I want to get it out if I can. Mine is white in shadow, but turns black in exposed light.

That is definitely not what I had, mine was bright green. Im not an expert but perhaps a sponge or macro algae. I posted mine and within minutes I got a ID from Wheat Toast. I suggest you start a post for an ID and I bet one of the Experts will give you an ID and let you know if and how it can be dealt with. Good luck, I’ll keep an eye out for your post. I’m curious as well.

Hippo Tang, had a couple Ich Wipeouts from them. I had one I Quarantined for Three Month, treated him with everything I could think of. It came down with Ich from literally no where. I joked with my Wife, that I sneezed near the tank after visiting a LFS. BTW This was long before “Dory.”
