I can recommend two XR30s for this tank. They seem to be doing my corals well and provide good coverage of the tank.
I thought about the Sky but couldn’t think of a mounting solution that would fit my needs. I don’t want to hang the light and I think the only mounting available is a single mount which would interfere with the overflow box, or at least make it so you couldn’t use it with the lid.

In other news, I’m fighting green hair algae. It’s embarrassing to admit but I let it get out of control. I’m plucking as much as I can but it’s already consumed two frags. Planning on getting it under control some how.

Thanks for the recommendation on the XR30s!

I have similar issues with GHa as well. But I’m not too worried, like cyano, I know I can keep them in check with regular water change and sometime by plucking them out. Eventually as the corals grow out, snail population establish and tank matures to process enough nutrient they should become less and less relevant. Never letting them go completely berserk, is key :) .

So my Nyos 120 skimmer motor died. Contacted Nyos who referred me to Ecotech for a warranty replacement. So now I’m waiting on that. They’re currently back ordered so my tank has been without a skimmer for a week plus now. Hoping for the best.
Worse than that, this is my second skimmer in a year. Had a Red Sea Reefer that went through a warranty replacement for the motor twice that I ended up junking. In retrospect if I would have know skimmers are this prone to motor deaths I would have just kept working with the RSR. Stupid me.

Update: I went ahead and upgraded to 2 G5 XR30 Pros a few weeks ago. Zero regrets. All corals are acclimating and then some, from softies to acros.

Question: I actually started another thread on this topic today, but I am considering switching from the RSK300 to the Nyos 160. I see you have the 120. I have this same tank, so what has your experience been with the 120 and Nyos generally?

The Nyos 120 has been good when it’s worked. Smaller footprint so it fits the sump well. Best to keep an eye on it as fills quicker than the RSK300. I’m on my first motor warranty replacement. Apex told me it was drawing high power which is when I noticed it wasn’t skimming. Went to clean it overnight with citric acid and it failed to skim again. So now I’m waiting for a new motor.

Well, that’s good to know especially insofar as my RSK300 has worked really well and this is a possible “upgrade.” Sorry to hear this for you, though. Good luck…at least you have Ecotech to work with. And great tank!
