Pico Cycling - Advice

Hello!

I’m cycling a 9g Deskmate as my second fish tank. All dry rock, dosed with Tim’s One and Only to start. I have some live rock from another tank I’d like to add, along with some shells, but I don't necessarily know the best time to add it.

I figured too soon and the ammonia would kill what’s on the live rock, too late may be wasted time or allow algae growth. I didn’t know if anyone had experience adding a small amount of live rock to a primarily new system. It would be a fraction of my total volume.

Also, if anyone has Pico advice just give me a shout!

Definitely add the rock, it will help the cycling process go much faster, and will help mature the tank faster. Add a scoop of sand too to seed your new sandbed.

How bout AFR, should I hold off a little or get the alk up to where I want
Personally, I get the alk up to where I want, then start the AFR.

There is a good thread started a few days ago with lots of good starter info:
