I have a few potential spots in mind for a Maxima clam once my lights finish bumping up. I couldn't quite get enough PAR on my sandbed to support one down there as I understand, but have levels that are much more within range partway up my scape. I've never actually seen clams perched on a scape before, though, so curious where you put yours and any general recommendations for selecting a location outside of appropriate PAR. Thanks!

T. crocea and T. maxima are rock boring clams and should be kept on rocks. Any of the other Tridacnids will do better on the sand bed.

I have 1 noae, 3 maximas and 2 croceas on the rock in this system. One crocea is fully bored in. Here’s a quick top down photo of 2 maximas and the noae, 3xx-5xx PAR under halides

That noae is killer! Also, this is how these clams should be living in our tanks, in the rocks, high up and tons of light.

Yes, I was talking about the three clam species found in rock mostly, maxima, crocea and noae. But that’s not to say we shouldn’t be giving the other species high light, in fact they are all found in shallow waters. For long term success, those clams that naturally bore into rock, should be placed on rock or a solid natural surface. Sand is not a good place for the three that I mentioned here.

They are mine, 310 - 380 par they are under. Once the derasa and hippopus have gotten bigger they will make the centre of the scape and the maxima il probably move somewhere else but for now works well like that
