I am a new reefer and my tank is only around 4 months old. I just noticed this growing on my Xenia the other day. My first thought was aiptasia. I am starting to think it is actually a zoa or paly. If anyone can help me identify this I would appreciate it very much.

Yup, I'd guess a Zoa or Paly as well.

They are tunicates hich are filter feeders. Should not impact the xenia in any manner but if you feel compelled to remove it, take plug out of water and scrape off with a pairing knife and rinse in tank water in a separate container before returning it to tank

My main concern is if it is a paly or not. I really do not want Palys in my tank because of the risks that go along with palytoxin. I know safe methods can be used and most people get by fine having it in their tank. I just don’t want it in mine.

I’ve been searching the internet for photos of Tunicates. The ones I am seeing look nothing close to this. Can you provide a photo or link to what you are talking about?

When in doubt, take it out.

Definitely not these, I’ll attach a better picture. The video quality is terrible.
Much better- That is a Purple death paly .
As for paly, unless to mess with them or try to cut them, is the real threat with them- Nothing to fear. I have many in my main tank and no issues.
If you physically come into contact with palytoxin–on your hands or in your eye, you would potentially feel a tingling or burning sensation and ultimately see damage to the area that came into contact with it–as the palytoxin binds with the cells in that area and destroys them. Washing hands as you would for Covid is sufficient. Wearing gloves is best
