Yes, you need a 1.5" threaded x barbed connector but I would not include a valve on the overflow, it serves no purpose. When you shut the system off for cleaning or whatever the overflow piping will already be drained and an air gap is stopping any further flow.
You will never ever want to restrict or throttle the overflow since its the return pump that controls the flow not the overflow which just matches the pumps flow so it serves no purpose. Leave it like you had it in your first post with no valve for simplicity.

AZ beat me to it. I was going to suggest you remove the valve earlier, but was just on the phone. But, like he said, its really not necessary

Not only is it noisier due to eddy and back currents it also restricts flow. I would use black or clear reinforced or heavy wall vinyl tubing for a nice smooth laminar flow.

I would think both HD and Lowes or any hardware store should have heavy wall vinyl tubing? Got mine there several times.

Mike, get it just a little small and heat gun it and fit it to the nipples. The heat guns are sold there too and are cheaper than the tubing of much length.

AND, watch where you lay down the heat gun while you are working with the tubing and nipple, I KNOW how badly the metal tip will burn your fingers and carpet in 1/1000 heart beat.
