What a pretty sight but man. . . I would not approach this thing even on the sand!

Enjoy:

When I was a kid, I used to be fascinated with these creatures whenever I saw them in books or on TV.

Me too! This is the first animal I remember being totally obsessed with. (Well, other than dinosaurs) My mom bought me these encyclopedic books about various parts of the animal kingdom each month and the one on oceans had a two-page article on these. I drove people crazy for months talking about them...

This is the book I always read as a kid. Similar to an encyclopedia book. I had this and I think I might have done a subscription to Zoobooks as a kid, can't remember

If they could film it, why didn’t they just pick it up and put it back in the ocean? Heartless people! It’s like they think it stings or something

Joking aside, that was one I was fascinated with when little. Saw it in a school science book and yea

Was a reef chemistry question of the day, but notably, some of the gas in the air bladder is carbon monoxide produced by the animal. Very unusual in the animal world.

Inflatable peacock
With extremely long poisonous tendrils :face-with-open-mouth:
"These long, thin tendrils can extend 165 feet in length below the surface, although 30 feet is the average. They are covered in venom-filled nematocysts used to paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures. For humans, a man-of-war sting is excruciatingly painful but rarely deadly"
