A simple thread to track partial reads, hard zero reads, or high reads on common reef tanks.

Please post pics like this, here’s Dr. Reef getting true zero on Api in his bottle bac thread.

9FA27DF3-5EFB-4F21-AEA9-B56B6AE5C88F.jpeg

the reading is not from a reef tank, it’s from brand new aged saltwater not used yet. A starting blank, in water with zero nitrification occurring.

in this thread, we want pictures from reef tanks that are guaranteed to have nitrification in action

we only want pics from post-cycle reefs, the ammonia status.

I’ll start, here’s the lowest we could get api to read in a post cycle reef

Sorry for pic credit we’ve done twenty thousand ammonia tracing threads and I didn’t label who posted this one, possibly it’s jackalexander.

everyone agrees this is .25 stuck cycle. It’s not hard yellow like Dr Reefs. We are only focusing on the ammonia

I can’t wait to see how many post cycle reefs look like this one, vs Dr Reefs clear obvious zero.

we need red sea too, just the same. Heck, throw in a seneye reading if you have one. Here’s a Red Sea blank, from Dr Reefs thread on bottle bac comparison:

How will the thread be used?
we want to compare what ammonia looks like in normal reefs vs what ammonia looks like in problem reefs.

I'll run a test tomorrow. I did achieve a true 0 after my gulf rock cycled and cured. Probably didn't need it but I did cycle the rock with fritz 9.
Will be cool to see what I get a year later.

Thank you both for posting we want all kit brands as they appear to the tester, after about six pages the patterns will be handy team, nice start for sure appreciated.

even though I don’t own the kits I recall each type has certain prep methods especially delay time for reading, it will be neat to see in pattern if the prep methods affect trending and degrees of color away from blanks which are obviously zero

the gradients of green vs yellows after a few posts will be neat to see if in unison or variation

pls can you do a side by side for ammonia

even if you just have one ammonia test, can you run it on your reef we have a baseline collection thread where the pic of the actual test on known safe water is being amassed for patterning among tanks.

thank you for adding to our data with time + pic that's what we need for pages. Dr Tim's is ten day bac max time, that's looking nice and ready to reef.

ScubaSkeets

fully cycled tank reads dark green. This causes panic in a huge amount of the populous

Not sure if this helps but in addition to Dr. Tim’s One and only used his ammonia, kept salinity at 1.018, temp at 85 F and only dosed ammonia to 2ppm by test readings. All suggestions from Dr. Tim himself. Lastly added Tropic Eden Live Reeflakes Sand 20lb. in a 25 gallon cube.

that reef is 100% cycled. the low level reading isn't as important or telling as the fact its lower than an initial one.

the movement down, after meeting the known dates on the bottle and then twice over, specifically means anything you add lives and the water smells normal too...true free ammonia is cat litter water, this will smell just fine. can proceed for sure, knowing zero other params about the tank. You've listed plenty of surface area for attachment. Ammonia tracing works this reliably, and without variation.

Im also cheating during this assessment, Ive brought up a cycling chart like a kid with an iPhone in algebra class under the desk. at day 20 that ammonia has dropped, held steady at safe level, and now we know how your kit above calibrates for thousandths or hundredths ppm nh3 form ammonia.

that reading there is the known safe baseline, any darker/rise back up to deep green means something died.

Nitrite and ammonia fell to flat 0 on day 20. Nitrate at 10 ppm. Changed 75% tank water Nitrate fell to 2ppm. 2 DaVinci clowns later and 2 weeks past all parameters steady. First 10% water change scheduled for this Sunday.

excellence, that tracks for nitrite exactly as a cycling chart too, solid set of kits there.

Yes please we would like all. Seneye join up too

we can make this a big baseline color compare thread where tanks are known to be post-cycle, preferably with bioload in place and running like we have so far. Just perfect.

Fade that’s most yellow so far pretty much. Msarro just the same, clear.

the zero reads outnumber any .25‘s so far, test kits are strong so far.
