I just got a powder brown tang the past Saturday. Been keeping a close eye on him. I noticed tonight that it had white spot. I'm guessing velvet. Did do a fresh water dip. There is no labor breathing yet so I hope I caught it soon enough. I put in Fritz copper safe. Just a half dose tonight. Plan on doing another 2 ml in the morning. I hope I caught it soon enough.. just glad I put it in a second tank that I keep chocolate chip starfish in. I moved the starfish to the sump of my DT. My current copper level is 1.0. test kit I'm using is salifert copper test. Any recommendations on what else I can do? I also keep the water at 80 degrees.

If this is really Velvet I would slowly add now over the next few hours to get up to at least 2.0ppm. Velvet moves fast. You may not have much time. It is not therapeutic until you get above 2.0ppm.

Is the fish swimming at a powerhead? This is one of the signs of Velvet.
Are you sure its Velvet and not Ich?
I would post pictures if you can so others can help

That is one of the tell tale signs of Velvet. I have had fish with Velvet and it kills fast I lost a couple and saved a couple. I did not react fast enough.
You should read the link I posted above to help get a better understanding.

pics are blurry but that looks kind of extreme. I hope you are able to save him. I would get the copper over 2.0 tonight.
hopefully one of the others I tagged will chime in. If hes still good and active a freshwater dip may help knock some of the parasites off and buy you some extra time.

Velvet yes and you will need a reliable copper test kit- not api brand and take it to therapeutic level 2.25-2.5 for 30 days at 80 degrees and add aeration via air stone for proper treatment
Assure the product you are using states- TREATS OODINUM

I couldn't find air pump. So I opened up two windows in the room. One east and another west window to get air flowing through the room. My DT already which is a 125 went from 7.8 to 8 for the ph. So I think I'm alright with our the air pump. I have a power head with alot of surface agitation and a hob filter also. I got the copper to above 2.0 . The salifert copper test only goes to 2.0 so it's a dark blue with the test. If it looks better in the morning. I'll also do a fresh water dip. I have the heater in a five gallon bucket to heat to 80 degrees. I also turned the tank heater up to 84. Since cold air is coming in through the windows. I'll get up in a few hours to check up on it.

Also I don't have a oxygen pump in this tank. I have plenty of surface agitation. Should I still use a pump.

You should add aeration tot eh tank as that works better than just water circulation alone.

Can you post a short video of the fish? Velvet causes rapid breathing as the first symptom. If you are seeing white spots, it may just be ich. Copper treats either one. However - if this fish was in the tank with your starfish, and you moved the starfish into your DT, that may have carried the disease into your DT.
