Hi everyone

Im looking for a power head for my 50gal Red Sea max 170. I was looking at an mp10 but realized it’s only good up to 3/8” glass thickness . I currently have a Red Sea reef wave 25 gyre but I hate the app and am also unhappy with it as I can’t find a fish guard for it and it damaged my BTA last night.

so I can try to DIY something which I’m not good at or find a power head that I can buy a guard for. Right now I’m exploring powerhead options.

Anyone have a recommendation for this tank? i don’t mind spending some money in it but I don’t want something that is overpowered for my tank.

keys for me are...

-must work in 1/2” thick glass
- need to be able to acquire a guard for it that will protect fish and anemone
-would like to have a companion app to control it

thanks for your thoughts!

On our 50-gallon IM tank, we are using MP10, MP40, and RedSea power heads. The two MP's are ran through the Apex Neptune system.

You can go with a MP40 or a Nero 5

I bought a Nero 5 with a 3rd party nem guard and am happy with it although truth be told I think the flow on the stock pump of the Red Sea max e170 tank is pretty good without the help of a power head
