I have a 312 gallon system that is 5'x5'x20" I have two mp 40s and two 1.5" seaswirls on return pump which is a hammerhead pushing 6,500 gph. I have a maximum flow rate of 15,500 gph. Great for all the SPS in the system

2 mp10s
2 jebao pp8's
1 gyre xf250
1 nero 3

80G cube.

Cubes are tough to get good flow in, so I use a mixture to get where I need it to be.

Wow! Now I'm really convinced that I don't have enough powerheads... Albeit, I have a LPS dominant tank.
I have 2 Neptune WAVs in a 280g DT with 2 COR returns. And, if I turn the WAVs up beyond 5%, all the coral seem quite unhappy...

2 cheap Korean ones in a 75 gal LPS and softy reef. 20X + turnover and I replace the power heads every couple of years (and clean them every 3 or 4 months).

Haven't found a compelling reason to spend hundreds of dollars on water movement in my LPS and softy tank, when the cheap ones seem to work fine.

2 cheap but strong powerheads on each side of my 4’ 90 gallon.

I have both powerheads pointing towards the surface and both returns out of the water for max oxygenation in lieu of having a skimmer that provides that effect…

I have another more expensive and less strong powerhead I just use to mix salt that I’ve been debating on throwing in somewhere too…

The plan was to upgrade to MP’s because I love the look (and the controllability) and put one of these guys in my 40b sump (that isn’t set up yet)

I feel like upgrading my flow is going to be so much easier than upgrading my lighting, which is next, what a headache the lighting market/ debate is…….

2x Jebao SLW 10's in my 130 litre all in one

After 2 decades of paying for a variety of expensive powerhead's from the big names in the hobby whose manufacturing quality has taken a downward trend over the years and now sit in my powerhead retirement box, I decided to try the SLW out silent and cheap unlike the more expensive noisy options, silent is not something I ever thought I would be saying about Jebeo

I demand silence from my pumps....if it sounds loud to us imagine what the tank inhabitants go through

Water movement in a saltwater reef aquarium is important on so many levels so using the right powerheads in the right configuration for your tank is a pretty big deal! That being said there is not a "one size fits all" solution when it comes to the number of powerheads you need, which brands you use or where they should be placed. For the most part anyway. But it should still be interesting to see how many powerheads are members are using!

1. How many powerheads do you have in your saltwater aquarium? (what size tank do you have)

2. Which powerheads are you using?

I just have one in my 50g AIO. I have it placed going across the tank along the back wall about half way up.

I am using an Ecotech MP40. After having a tank that wasn't drilled I was just too happy to be able to set up a tank without a single cord in the display, and that included the powerhead. The original plan had been to go with one or two MP10s but the glass thickness on the IM 50 Lagoon convinced me to upgrade. Some people don't seem to have any issues with the MP10s on 10mm glass but I decided not to chance it.

Two MP40’s on the back wall, two gyre 330’s on the sides and a sicce nano in the return section (under dosing lines and to push food towards the return, I keep my auto feeder in the sump).

Just as a follow up to all those with controllable wave pumps, do you run 'Night Mode' or just have it constant?
