Just as a follow up to all those with controllable wave pumps, do you run 'Night Mode' or just have it constant?
I use the Hydros wave engine to control mine and use lagoon during the night, so there are still surges that happen throughout the night. It’s actually better to ramp up during the night to kick up some detritus, as most fish sleep during the night. Besides, the reef never stops moving.

2 small jeboa wavemakers set on pulse at varying times throughout the day.
The rest of the time I'm pushing about 900gph through my little 80 gallon haha
Tons of rock, shelving and deflection to achieve that.
Can you tell:D?

Nothing in sump moving water besides my overflows and skimmer.

We have about 16 in use between our showroom and farm tanks.

We are using MP40 pumps (several years old) and H2PRO wave makers (about 3 years old) and 1 old Rossmont that is still working well after 7+ years or so but they are out of business now.

Water movement in a saltwater reef aquarium is important on so many levels so using the right powerheads in the right configuration for your tank is a pretty big deal! That being said there is not a "one size fits all" solution when it comes to the number of powerheads you need, which brands you use or where they should be placed. For the most part anyway. But it should still be interesting to see how many powerheads are members are using!

1. How many powerheads do you have in your saltwater aquarium? (what size tank do you have)

2. Which powerheads are you using?

I put down 10+ cause i have multiple pumps pulling water from the tank and pushing it back in for flow.

All together in my 265 i have 1 mp60, 1 mp40, 2 sea swirls, and 3 return pumps that feed 6 return pipes that cycle on and off for flow.

"how many" isn't really adequate. Size of the tank (both gallons and dimensions) and the size of the power heads is as important as the overall number.

1 MP40. 1 Jebao. Would replace the Jebao is Vortech was supported by Apex at all. For what those things cost, it is offensive to be required to pay an additional fee to use their powerhead with a phone app, and for that price, it is offensive to have a "programmable powerhead" that is so totally unintuitive.

I have 3 powerheads in my 35 gallon nano reef tank. I Mimicked natural ocean tide. They are all control module powerheads so I have full control over them. I have gsp’s and started on a zoa colony. I’ve been buying random color zoas to get them to grow together for more color in the tank.

135 Gal (72L x 18"D x 24" H) with 3 ReefPower RP-M pumps across the back and two CoralBox QPS-5 pumps on one end directed at the overflow in the back corner of the other end. I run the QPS-5 pumps 24/7 on F5 setting (reef mode) and the 3 RP-M vary from F1 (Steady on at Power =1) overnight to F0 (off - for tangs to eat off the rocks for a few hours) to F5 (reef mode) when the lights are at maximum power output.

I also have 1 Jabeo RW-15 that come on for 1 hour when lights are at peak output with its setting to F1 and power output of 7 - out of 20). This is the opposite end of the tank from the two QPS-5 pumps and really churns things up and makes the whole tank turbulent. When lights are at maximum, all 6 pumps are on and the water movement is quite high to help sweep nutrients to and from corals. Fish tend to lay low for this 1 hour period but come out when all but the QPS-5 pumps are running to graze.

2 MP40's in my 180g.

Personally, I think adding a bunch just makes them work against each other unless you are adding them to address a dead spot.
