Currently have a 48" Aquatic Life Hybrid with 2 Prime 16's, hanging from the ceiling above a IM 100G INT (47.3" x 23.6" x 19.7") tank. I would like remove the hybrid light fixture and add either 1 hydra 32 or 2 more Prime 16's, all hanging from the ceiling on a bar connected at both ends. Couple of questions:

1) Would 1 Hydra 32 (positioned parallel to the length of the tank) + 2 Primes or 4 Primes be the better choice?

2) Would the HMS kit work with the Primes? I know it states Hydra only, but it seems like I could use the Prime's hanging kit mount to attach them to the HMS.

3) If not the HMS kit, what are the other options for a mount do I have hanging from the ceiling that would work with the Prime's similar to the HMS bar? Possibly 80/20 aluminum?

Thanks

Did you ever find out about the Primes on the hms rail?

Nothing yet.
I really think it would work and I’m thinking about doing the same thing. Seems to me I would bolt the bracket from the prime hanging kit to the HMS rail(probably have to get screws from the hardware store) and lock it in the spot you want it on the rail and then attach the Prime to the bracket and viola. It’s seems so easy that’s what scares me though.

Well here’s the proof!

You will need to purchase separately for each prime you intend to mount to an HMS rail:

1x prime hanging kit
1x 10-32 x 1/2” screw
1x 10-32 hex nut

Hard-to-Find Fastener 014973123741 Hex Nuts, 10-32, Piece-20

Steel Pan Head Machine Screw, Black Oxide Finish, Meets ASME B18.6.3, #2 Phillips Drive, #10-32 Thread Size, 1/2" Length, Fully Threaded, Import (Pack of 100)

Yea!! I’ve been thinking about doing this for a couple weeks now. I wonder if anyone could 3D print a bracket like the one that comes with the hanging kit.

That would be nice since that’s literally the only piece in the hanging kit you need.

Well here’s the proof!
Glad you found a way to mount them! I was looking at this same issue and came up with this:

The screws are M5 .80 x 12 and come in a two pack that is $.98 at Lowe's. The screw fits the hole in the bracket perfectly and is a snug fit in the upper slot of the rail. If you want extra security, you could use a longer M5 screw with a locknut.

I already have the Prime tank mount -- could I use the bracket that came with that instead of ordering the hanging kit?
