I bought a bucket of this salt a couple weeks ago from BRS, last night I tested my calcium twice it read 508 and 511 Hannah checker. It was suggested by a friend I test my fresh saltwater and I got 516.

My question is, is this safe to keep at this level? My other paramaters are

28 gallon nanocube full of lps sps frags
Calcium 511
Mg 1440
Ph 8.15
Alk 8.3

Before Tropic Marin my alk was usually around 10.3 and calcium was 430 to 450.

Check your salinity and check it’s calibrated correctly.

oh and it’s not too clear what salt you are talking about, I’m guessing you mean Tropic Marin pro?

I initially was using Tropic Marin Pro but switched to HW marine reefer because the Alk on the Pro runs 7-7.5 which is considerably lower than the 8.5-9 I wanted on my tank. So keep an eye on your Alk if you are targeting a different range. I wouldn't worry about the 500 Ca other than to check your salinity calibration as suggested already as it could be off a little which is giving you slightly higher numbers than the mid 400 Tropic Marin lists.

I have been using Pro in my system for about 8 months these are my parameters and they have been pretty steady, I do 20 gals weekly on my 120gal KZ system. I mix it at 1.026

Alk. 7.6
Cal 430

which is right where I need it to be.

Tropic Marin Pro is one of the best salts, I would think you might have the salinity too high. I'm thinking of making a change to a different salt to save some money but I'm afraid to change from TMP....

I've used a few in my history as a reefer, IO RC, redsea and Fritz, nothing mixes and clean and as easy as the TMP salts do. i love it, i understand its a bit more, but for me worth every penny.

I went and bought a new refractometer and calibration fluid today, mine was over 7 years old. The new refractometer says my salinity is 1.025 so I'm lost as why my calcium is in the 500s.

Maybe it’s the Hanna checker. I have never used the Ca one but sounds like it is difficult to get accurate results. Have another test kit or lfs that can do a confirmation for you? It’s also possible the Ca is what your test kit says it is. Mine is up around 500 with my CaRX going .. the corals are fine
