I'm working on designing a custom sump and was thinking about probe placement. On my current tank, the probes (temp, salinity, pH, and ORP) are all in the skimmer section of my sump. Whenever I do a large water change from the sump, the water level changes on the probes. This can cause a reading errors for the temp and salinity probes.

On the new sump I was thinking I might put the probes in the "crash box" of the bean animal drain. Since the drains from the DT exit below the sump water line as a full siphon, there should be little to know bubbles in that section and that section would never drain during water changes.

Does anyone see any issues with placing probes in that section? Am I overlooking anything?

If your probes are Apex, the bubbles may affect the salinity probe. I have read turning it upside down can cure this.
But if yours is little or no bubbles, you should be good.

Thanks guys. The bubbles were the only issue I could think of.

If your probes are Apex, the bubbles may affect the salinity probe. I have read turning it upside down can cure this.
But if yours is little or no bubbles, you should be good.

That's a good tip about turning it upside down.
