Does anyone have a recommendation for a protein skimmer that is better than the one made by Coralife?

I have been using a Tunze 9001 in the middle chamber of my Coralife Biocube 29G for almost 5 years. Works great and I have had no issues.

I have the Tunze 9001 and an inTank Media Basket in the middle (2nd) chamber.

I’m probably in the minority but I like my BioCube protein skimmer. It’s works great in my opinion. Took some getting used to as far as placement and setup, but I watched a Youtube video that helped greatly.

I replaced my tunze 9001 with the icecap k2-50. Needed a little more plastic cutout than the 9001 did and its a tight fit but I love it.

Can I get more details on what you had to do to get this to fit? I just got my skimmer in after I saw someone say if fit in chamber 2. They left out where I needed to cut stuff!

I have the coralife protein skimmer in chamber 1 with my heater, it works fairly well in my opinion for the price

How big is the icecap compared to the coralife?
3" round and literally drop it in and plug it in and it goes to work.. I had Tunze- rarely stays together

I have a Hydor in chamber 1 on a 32 I picked up the other day. The previous owner liked it, myself I'm unsure.

Thinking of removing the skimmer and just going fuge with a good filter pad

I need to do some work today after work and will grab some pictures. Its been a couple years since I did it but I think it was mostly the same the Tunze plus a little more. I also needed to remove the screw that held the silencer to the body and didn't use the hanging bracket at all.

Again Ill get some pics later.

Okay thanks.
I ran into some unforseen issues at work and need to go in this afternoon/evening. Tried to quickly do a water change and get you some pics but of course you know what happens anytime you try to work quick!!

Wound up needing to clean the whole skimmer which I then of course kinda broke and sliced my thumb open!! Its now superglued in a couple of places along with my thumb but anyway lol

It looks like I cut the entire little lip of plastic all the way around chamber two. Hopefully you can see that here. Try to get as close to wall as you can because you will need every millimeter you can get.

I sit the skimmer on a 3” acrylic riser so it sits a bit higher and I can access the cup easier. I don't think its necessary but helpful. It also lets you keep the water level higher but you'll need to play with it some to see what works for you.

How you orient the skimmer body will matter on if it will fit. I have the knob/adjustment pipe facing the In Tank basket. My images are taken from the right side of the tank looking towards the return chamber.

Hope this helps. The fit is super tight but it will fit. Im holding the silencer in a couple of shots but it usually just rests on top of the In Tank basket as you see two pics up.

Okay thanks for the help. I really want this to work and didn’t want to just start cutting without any direction lol.
