Hello everyone, had a purple firefish for about 3 months. It never seemed perfect health to me but it was my first ever fish.
Anyways it is sitting on the bottom alot now and doesn't seem to have good control. Kinda swaying with current and such.
I noticed when i got it the bottom fin had a patch of color missing. Is this sign of a disease?
What else should i look for?

Found one of my hermit crabs had my fish pinned down and put a hole in top fin.

Do you think he is the cause of this? Or is he going after her because she is dying.

I have also found her sticking to my return pump intake a couple times in the last few days.

Sad to say it is probably near dead imo. can you add an air stone and make a powerhead chop the surface, sorry I'm not any good at diseases?
Was anything bullying it?

My hermit crab was bullying it. I have a wave pump that moves the surface and a sicce 1.0 as a return pump that also breaks up the surface.

Do you think it would still help?

I have a small frostbite clownfish im the tank and he seems ok.

Dont know if this info helps but i appreciate any advice.

The lfs I purchased this fish is like the walmart of fish stores in canada. I learned now only to buy from respectable stores...

I also had a problem where my ato pumped in too much freshwater which i posted about a week or two ago... But fish seemed ok for a bit after this.... Maybe it took its toll over longer period of time...

Sorry for loss. Aggression will overtake the smallest to largest fish depending upon damage it receives

Judging by the clarity of water in the photographs it is very reduced. Possibly ammonia but may be H2S gas and/or CO2 retention. Did you have any red or green slime algae? When marine water is right, it is gin-clear, almost sparkly. 370 ORP. Most likely a water quality issue. Crabs are opportunistic scavengers. It would be rude not to eat something lying helpless on the bottom. They are called the clean-up crew.

I don’t keep any crabs, especially hermits anymore for this exact reason. I think blue legs Ok, but I still don’t take any chances. I have no reason to keep them as they do nothing.

They will kill and eat anything it can catch.

It’s been 5 years without crabs, lost nothing.

What a difference.

If that's your reef on your avatar then it's gin clear. Small hermits are very useful. Others, not so much. Glad things improved and you are still at it.
