So how long do You wait & observe a new fish?
I don't treat a new fish with meds unless I see a reason to do so. I' afraid I'll kill the fish by treating. So I bought a "small" Blue hippo Sept 2nd. " Lil Bluto" was put in a well cycled 20 long That was salinity & temp to match. He did the usual hiding out nibbling for a couple days . Still a little camera shy but has been eating very well on reef Frenzy, ocean krill ,algae flake all soaked in vitachem.
The fish isn't gong any where any time soon. Looks real good to me no spots or discolorations .
So how long does one wait?

@Lovemyreef2015 , thanks for the bump ! He is cute isn't he ? Bluto's have always been my favorite tang. Iv'e kept more then a few & never saw any aggression from these fish. Only thing is they get big & hog the food . At about 2 & 3/4 " think he's got plenty of growing time So what do You think ? I month , maybe 2 or longer

We honestly never qt, I know, I know. While I'm not an expert I'd say a couple weeks and eating good I'd put him in the DT. As far as growing I'd say a year or a little more. Ours grew rather quickly in the first year so we found her a new home. Congrats man, love that fish. Yours looks really good.

Ich usually shows up within 14 days, but I'd do 4-6 weeks if just observing.

Personally, I do prazi and copper for all fish. I just started using a hanna copper checker to make sure copper is at the right concentration. Dont trust just observation.

he's going into a 180 so I have some time. I don't blame Ya for no q/t. I think A lot of fish keepers do more harm than good . I will always observe before adding to the display though ,had a couple close calls.

so I want to add the blue hippo to my 180 soon like today ! So I have temp & salinity balanced so that's cool . However the alk is really different & low in this 180 fish only. the 10 is 6.5 alk the tank the fish is in ,Wow I just tested with ahanna checker was 5.3 ! I'm still in dis belief & considering testing again. Any way is this a really big differencr 7 shock the fish? I was going to just add it but I could drip for a while.
