So what I thought was going to be a new seahorse tank has turned into an emergency hospital tank. I noticed that my 2 tangs started to get spots on them. I thought it was Ich but it now looks to be velvet. I pulled them both out and put them into a 29 gallon bio cube and have started Coppersafe, that I’ve had on hand just in case I ever needed it. I’ve ordered a Hanna Copper test tonight that will be here on Thursday. I was in hurry mode that I didn’t remove the sand or rocks that were in there. Should I maybe remove the sand now or just leave it and test the levels and add accordingly? Thoughts…

I would test and redose as needed, I’m worried if you pull the substrate, you’ll lose beneficial bacteria that you’ll need to maintain low ammonia levels.
Velvet’s main symptom is rapid breathing. If you aren’t seeing that. It is probably ich, copper works in either case.

Thank you! I thought it was Ich and actually started treating them for it but when I actually got the light on my Purple it looked bad and I panicked. They started to not want to come out and I had to chase them down in a 300 gallon tank, corner them and get them out. Here is a picture of them both. I’ve got the lights off to help with aggression and to try to minimize the discomfort. I also have a Seachem Ammonia Alert in the tank as well.

That isn't velvet, its ich. They will need a 30 day course of copper at full dose. Are there any fish still in the 300? If so, they are also at risk, and they can act as a reservoir for the parasite.

There are still fish in the 300. None of the others have shown any signs. I was treating the whole tank but the tangs were the 2 that I really noticed and pulled them out.

Keep a close eye on the remaining fish, hopefully they don’t develop an issue.
