I added this Blue Tang, about a month ago. It was healthy I don't quarantine I mostly by from a lps I've been using for almost 20 years. It's been terrorized by one of my Black Clowns. I started to notice the dreaded white spots a little over a week ago and have been watching the rest of the fish population for signs and haven't seen any but the it has been getting very slowly worse. So do I bite the bullet and fight the wife about a quarantine tank now or give it a little longer with healthy diet and steady good water parameters. Is there something I can add to the display that may help without causing a major disruption?

No need to fight but YES- A quarantine is needed. I see white bumps on the fish which may be mucus spores and either post ich or bacterial. You want to apply coppersafe or copper power at therapeutic level 2.25 for a full 30 days - Must be full 30 days and you can safely add seachem Kanaplex for a week with added oxygen via airstone which should clear this up. Maintain good water quality during this process by adding air stone.
Use Hanna copper test kit to assure you have correct application of copper.

Marriage or fish tanks? Lol that’s a tough decision.

check to see if petco still has their 10g on sale for about $10. Then add on a small 50w heater plus a 100 to 150 GPH powerhead plus a sponge filter then you are set for a QT

Or an aqua clear 30 hob filter
Agreed but those things cost more than a small $10-15 powerhead from Amazon but it does give the additional benefit of extra oxygen exchange through the waterfall. Downside is then there is an opening that a cover can’t reach and as we know - all fish jump.

This. To eradicate, quarantine for all fish and a fallow period will be needed.

The problem is - if the are white spots on the tang are indeed 'a parasite' - pick one - you're going to have to treat your entire tank (the fish) - in a separate tank - and leave your tank fallow. It's not just about this one fish. it's about all the rest. Otherwise if you treat the fish - adding it back will likely result in a mere re-infection.

My recommendation:

Treat all fish with the appropriate copper /prazipro quarantine protocol - and then leave your tank fallow 76 days. I'm picking that because I am not sure - unless you can do it slowly - that increasing the temp to 81 in your display won't affect the other inhabitants.

Curious - if it's post ich - is it possible that the Ich is cured? In other words - let's not add a bunch of other fish for a while (3 months)?

He was looking much better yesterday and still nothing on any other fish. I'm hoping it's just the tang thing and he's been able to fight on his own. Has anyone tried the polyp-lab medic supposed to be reef safe and kill when in free swim stage?
