i'm trying to figure out how many I would need I was planning on going with four and possibly using the wide-angle lens kits.

This will be for an SPS dominant reef .

I would say at least 4 depending on what coral your going to grow you may need more to avoid shadowing

I would recommend looking at the PAR distribution graphs provided by BRS TV and calculate the number so that your tank's PAR is around 250 - 350.

I'd say phenomenal! I have a 48x24x30 and these are the first Radions I had to dial back.

Per the BRS video they said reefers that are SPS dominant are going with 1 every 1-1.5 ft with the plucks facing front & back. You can always add more later!!! They dont have nor do you need a wide angle lens with these lens.

I have a 6 footer with 3 gen 3's with wide angle lenses and a 4 footer with 2 Gen 2's.
I have the light right arond 12" above the water and don't have any shadowing. The lights are installed long ways, not front to back. I feel like they're right at the max. I would think you would want 5-6 for an SPS dom 8 foot tank.

I'd be interested to know the true benefit of front to back mounting? Iv'e always gotten great spread with mounting LED lights sideways...

Why front / back versus side to side, side to side would be more spread length wise i guess it depends on the width...

for a 24x24 cube would you suggest side to side?

Tank is exactly square so it makes no real difference. Depends on your rockwork I guess.

His tank is 30" and he's putting at least 5 Radions on his tank so I would place them ~1.5ft apart & facing front to back because the light is a 11.8" in length so spread the light out a little better i would place them front to back.
