Hi, I need a lighting recommendation. I have an Innovative Marine 40G Nuvo Fusion. The display is 24"W x 15"D x 19"H. Mixed reef, a couple acros, several montis, a number of LPS, and many softies.

Would you recommend:
(a) 2 AI Prime HDs
(b) 1 Radion XR15 G5 Pro
(c) 2 Radion XR15 G5 Pros
(d) Something else?

I'm leaning toward (a) or (c) because my rock setup has a strong inclination for shading. I'm generally wondering if two Radions is overkill compared to two AI Primes? I want really high quality lighting with excellent programmability and remote monitoring (phone app) of the lighting.

Thanks! John

I would go with the 2 ai primes
-You will save alot of cash that could be used elsewhere on your reef.
-The 2 primes will allow you to grow pretty much everything in that tank.
-The radions may be overkill
-Another option is 1 xr30 g5 pro

I have used 2 primes on my jbj 45 aio and grew a nice mixed reef with them.

Personally, I have primes. If I were to start over, I would have gone radio a probably.

primes can have their “UV” diode melt the lens. Happened to my HD16 after only being 8 months old. It was replaced by AI, but should have never been an issue in the first place.

You definitely had it up to high then... Most new setting have people blasting the uv way up when it doesn't need to be

I was following the BRS AB+ schedule.

If the light shouldn’t be allowed to get “that high” then it should be a limited feature on the programming...

I'd go radion And honestly you could just run your radion at a lower intensity. I have my xr15 pro over a 20gal long 30Lx12Hx12W it sits 7 inches off the water on ab+ at 35% max peak.

You cant beat control ability, support, and par of radion. Yeah you may save a few bucks but you want designer corals and popping eye candy go with radion. You will have more room to expand later as we all do.

I had a maxspect razor 3 (the 130w older gen) but just upgraded to the reefbreeders 24” it’s really quite a light and can grow anything.
