The tank design is not your typical Display Tank, since returning 10/2017, I hope one day these corals will thrive to aquaculture them before a complete ban on wild corals happens, it may not. But I'd rather think of the worst, so if it doesn't happen, better outcome. Anyway , the technical part, which I'm setting up, is diverting discharge from Diatomaceous Earth Filtration, when I finish feeding corals then filtration will revert back to normal operation, this filtration system can not be shut-off and restarted,filter media falls off. From trial and error I've come this far. All info on net about these corals is limited success. There are many different corals that are a challenge and this is one of them. I love a good challenge. I only buy new equipment , if I can't build economically or can't find good used one. So why outside? Incase of a leak, and I will operate two chillers, 1/2hp & 1/4hp.
When I returned I had two refugiums outside with chiller system. Sorry for long answer. Thanks for checking out thread

You in South California and me in Austin, Texas both operate outside reef systems. While I do enjoy a challenge, I leave the difficult corals to you. It’s enough dealing with triple digit temperature during Texas summer.

This system was initially put together in April but finale ( cosmetic ) construction is still on going. Reef display under the oakes will be the trademark for Aquaculture Ranch. I intend to use it as a marketing tool for a retirement “bed & breakfast” business.

I do see you like to spend money on the finer things in life. That mini split ain't cheap. Especially that brand. Nice.

Quality is priceless.

I use a 2 ton mini split with a 20 SEER efficiency rating. I coupled a 55G tank in the house with 150G Rubbermade tub buried in the ground. The 150G glass tank under Oakes is coupled to same sump.

The 2 ton mini split equipment & hardware was under $2000. I had a contractor do the job for $3000. When I priced titanium heat exchanges of same size heat pump, the price > $5000

now this one's a surprise, when I bought this for pennies on the dollar. The stalk was smooth no polyps or tentacles took about a week and a half but now there's some polyps and some tentacles that's really surprising.

Connected vinyl hoses to the chiller to see if it works I think I'm going to need a temperature control bummer. Today I received one of the solenoid valves for the DE filtration system. New display tank is cycling as we speak, slowly but surely

Why diatomaceous earth?

Diatom filters are old technology for polishing water and removing fish parasites. I consider parasites as live food for mixed garden reef filter feeders.

Since I started using , I've seen better results from my children of the sea. They love to eat but enjoy bathing in pristine waters. They're very spoiled. Heee

Considering your beautiful monoculture, I see the wisdom of your choice. I use a UV Sterilizer for a similar purpose. In my case, I do not remove parasites or bacteria as I consider them both as food for filter feeders in mixed garden reef tank.
