Hello all.

I was debating what lights would be good for a 40 x 23 x 23 tank that only houses softies and LPS, I don’t plan to go SPS in this tank.

1x Radion Xr30 G5
2x Radion Xr15 G5

or ???

I would love to hear the reef2reef opinion on how to light this tank.
‘thanks in advance to all.

If that's a 90gallon, I would use one xr15 probably for those lower light corals you'll probably get 70 or so par on the sandbed with just one xr15 blue and get the diffuser too.

A 3 feet 6 bulbs Sunpower would be good for that tank. If you want more pop, add a LED strip.

The 2 separate fixtures will cover a 40" tank better than the single xr30. The recommended spread for that fixture isn't anywhere near 40 inches. You have lots of options though.

2 36" led bars (Reef Brite or Orphek) and 1 90 watt fixture (XR15 for par, a360x for shimmer). Place the 90 watt fixture over the focal point of your aquascape.

I would use an 8 bulb 36" ATI Sumpower and call it an amazing day!
The corals would grow fervently with punching colors!!!!
Best of all... those fixtures look great and won't need updates for the rest of your life! Best investment for a very easy light fixture to deal with, plug & play, to concentrate on water chemistry, etc...

I agree that T5 would be a great way to light this tank. Probably don't need 8 bulbs, though, for an LPS/softie tank. 4 or 6 would be plenty.
