Hello all,
I am a new reefer and I know the ugly stage is to be expected but I am losing the battle with this stuff.
It looks like hair algae but is red or even dark purple spending in the lighting. It is long and flowing on the rock and like a carpet on the sand. It is worked late in the day and very much reduced first thing in the morning before the lights are on. I have blue light at 100% and white at 10%.
My nitrates and phosphates are low, to the point of not showing up during testing, though I am using API kits and I have heard they aren’t the most accurate.
I would greatly appreciate any help in identifying, and hopefully eliminating, this from my tank.
