So it's time!
I've been dreaming of a Reefer for some time, so I'd thought I would finally buy one!
After about a year of doing some spare landscaping for a few elderly people, I've saved up plenty to put to this build!

This tank finally went onsale on Black Friday (Thank you Red Sea for giving me a heads up on it).
Not only did I save 10% on this awesome tank, I also didn't have to pay taxes on it, that's over $115 on takes!
After all said in done, this ran me just $2k.
I would love to tell everyone the name of the famous Saltwater website, but because they havn't updated their tax information yet.
You can search around and find them though! They're very popular to us all Please PM if you want the name of that company).

The tank came in last week. I asked the company if they could ship it the last week of December because I didn't have any vacation days left, haha.
Their customer service rocks! Cheers to them!
Look at this awesome job on packaging.

The pressed wood they used to hold the contents works great in the attic for storage!

When I unboxed everything, it was well packed into the Display Tank,

After getting everything out, I decided to take a few photos of the DT.

The stand took about two hours to build. Probably could've done it in one. The directions are very easy to read too.

I had to first move my current outdated tank from the spot where the new one is going.
IMG_0086.jpg

After I empted the current tank, my friend and I just moved it six feet out, then put the new tank in the original spot.

If you look at the current 55G tank, you'll see the frag/egg create on top of the tank in a triangle, can anyone guess why?
Should start a poll for that... My wife owns two cats... the one likes the get on top... What's makes you more mad than a cat laying on top of your tank. How about a cat puking in the tank! Yes, that freaking happened, no losses though! Purchased a lid from Clearview many months ago. The lid was a custom too, suppose to take 77 days to make and 10 more days for custom lids. The lid should be here anytime.

The reason why I put everything back into the 55G was to get all the sand off the rocks and not live my live stock in other tanks/buckets/garage.

The new tank won't have any sand, tip for new people here/beginners, DON'T USE SAND! Sand is a trap for everything! If you're running any big wave makers on it or pumps, then you've seen your sand build up in spots and other spots you just see your bottom glass. Good way to start algae when your sand moves too much.
Sad to say, even with my MP40's on low, the Fluval I ran below just added to the sand storm!
I thought about going with a bare bottom but didn't want to scrape corals off of glass. I bought square ceramic frag plugs rather than the common cured plugs.
Didn't want to take the chance of them not being 100% cured.

I will wash these off in some fresh RODI water and place them into the tank(There was a very very fine layer of dust on these).

Will post more soon!
Ask any questions!

Love my 425 and I’m sure you will also. The depth front to back makes aqua scaling so nice to add more Dimension.
Enjoy your build I’ll follow along

I thought about doing bare bottom for my tank, didn’t want the scratches that came with it. Saw this idea here on R2R, purchased ceramic tiles, needed 1,034 to lay across the whole bottom. They came in and when I measured them, they were over an inch!... props to the company but not me though. I only needed around 450...
Did the math and it was still cheaper for me to buy a 1,000 of these then in batches.

Thanks Crabby!
Any tips?
Tomorrow I’ll be headed to Lowes to buy a few parts to connect my Vertra M2 to my return line. Did you have any easy method for connecting your return line to your pump?
Sorry I didn’t get notification on your thread. Guessing you firgired out you plumbing. Not sure I can help much because I used 1” PVC on mine.

Washed them off at the end of last week. Still a tad dusty when I placed them in the tank.

Took about thirty minutes to cover the bottom of the tank. Wasn’t fun...

The concept behind using square tiles is for when my coral grow out, I can simply snap them away and then I have a frag.

I took the main plumbing and the top of my Vectra to Lowe’s and there was a worker that specialized in plumbing, with a minute had had exactly what I needed. That probably would’ve taken me an hour or so.
Props to Lowe’s for this awesome help!

That might be the best trip you will ever have at Lowe’s.
One recommendation I have is a different ATO then Red Sea. Not sure if that is something you addressed.

That was coming up!
I hated everything about the ATO that came with this tank, at least it came with one?

Using the LLC-UPLC-ATO-115 ATO from SpectraPure. I’ve used this ATO on my previous build.

Bought the GEO Reservoir 10 Gallon brand new from a fellow reefer here on R2R.

Ha I’ll be quite now so I don’t spoil the fun lol.

Geo makes Very nice ato containers. I only have a 5 gallon and on the third day it goes dry or I just catch it. 10 gallon container is on my never ending list but never seem to get one

Thanks for your feedback!
Keep an eye here on R2R! I was shocked I was able to get a brand new one at half the price! Awesome seller!
I had a 2.5G on my last tank and it ran dry very fast... I just hated if I didn’t catch it and it ran all night... thankfully that won’t happen now!

With all the cables laying at the bottom of the tank stand, I needed to do something about this!

I took a piece of compost wood and cut it to the right fit and then I plastic dipped it all day yesterday, very nice day(65F yesterday)!
I bought pocket desk hole connectors a month ago for this setup.

Forgot to show the sump section!
I’m running a PaxBellum(ARID N18) for my macro rather than have it all over the sump! Hope that wasn’t a poor choice!

Running a BRS reactor my my Carbon/GFO mix.

Running a RedSea Reefer RSK 600 Skimmer.

After it goes through everything, then right back up my Vectra M2 to my Display Tank.

For the first chamber, where there’s two mesh bags and two cups for the water to run though, I’m open to ideas for what to fill that in with!

Here’s an update!!!
Chaeto now added to sump, with a H160 Kessil on top!!
Growing faster than I want it too!!!

Also, moved the live rock out to form two Islands!

I’m now cleaning my glass about twice a month! Snails are keeping my tank in line!

I currently have 0 fish! And want to keep it this way, I love just having the reef only tank!
