Red sea seam failure preparedness

We have clamps and it worked. Now we are trying to decide on an extra tank .... not a lot of quality out there. We have a 40 gallon and 20 gallon tank that are up for the extra little stuff but I figure another 40 gallon will do it. Not real sure about a new tank. They all seem to leak. The 40 is one of the last Top fin and the other is a Aquion.

IM tanks are quality and you rarely if ever hear about issues.

I’ll just backup the suggestions to make the switch now. No point in waiting for the failure. You’ll then be adding major damage to your house at that point.

Plus you get to rip clean it (100% blasted clean rocks and sand for the new tank as you make the move over: skips the new cycle and removes all waste and invasion areas if any)

which extends the life of the reef tremendously

Notice didn't say you had to rip clean... as if it's some stressful thing... you *get* to rip clean meaning when you either rinse out or replace the filthy sandbed your new reef is going to shine and pop for months being waste free, you can feed it all better than you do now since all the spaces will be so clean. Biologically the tank transfer is an upgrade, a refreshment, a boost, a help.

Recently changed from RS to a Planet aquarium. The RS was purchased as a year old from a LFS. This included lights, pump etc. Set up in March and for 3 months no bubbles in the seam.
I am observant and saw tiny bubbles, kept an eye on the bubbles they got larger and more appeared. Then water seemed to be in the seams. Observed that it was increasing. Copepods were living in the space. We purchased clamps as the problem was that the bubbles were in the front seams.
The moving into another tank is a major ordeal.
Getting rid of a RS is a BIG problem. No one wants it and we could not even get the recycle place to take the glass. We broke the tank down. When removing the front glass the bottom seal did not even have much silicone in the middle. Uneven silicone. The design is so that this front piece does not have support. The only thing holding it is the silicone. Some people are going to be lucky and perhaps their tanks have properly applied silicone.
I am over the RS thing. It is a shame you cannot find a place that recycles aquariums. The stand we still have but it is taking up garage space.
My new tank is NOT rimless and I am feeling more secure. My first tank in 1994 was a 75 gallon Oceanic.
Never a problem and I moved it many times.
