Good Day! Finally getting into my first saltwater Tank, did fresh water planted tanks in the past. I have a second hand Red Sea refer 250( 54 gallon tank and 11 gallon sump, tank dimensions - 35.5"x21"x20") and plan to do a mixed reef tank (mostly soft coral with some LPS mixed in, will start with just soft). stocking wise I need advice on how many fish i can realistically have down the road. I'm doing a negative scapped rock work that will have caves and over hangs fairly heavily trying to find how to post a video of the tank. My current stocking idea is this

pair of clowns (will be first in after cycle)
a Blenny (not sure which yet)
Royal Gramma
Watchman Goby/pistol shrimp pair (after few months of running to allow sand microbes and pods to be active)
maybe a hawkfish?
Wrasse of sorts (last added)

My goal is to have good tank movement but when up-close be able to see the little nuances of the goby and blenny and hawkfish.

I think it will depend on what you choose. You need to account for where the fish live: open swimmers, fish that prefer crevices or caves, bottom dwellers, for example.

Clowns just hang somewhere. Even in corners. Blenny and goby like rocks/sand bed. Hawkfish likes rocks to perch--even on your powerheads. Wrasses depending like the sand bed and some are open swimmers, some like rocks. Some damsels (small) or chromis are good. I have 1 yellow tail-my oldest fish--and he's all over. Anthias like open water. My coral beauty swims in and out of rocks and from one end of tank to the other.

Got tank cycling. Eating through .5ppm ammonia over night currently. So by this weekend may be ready for some clowns. Running lights on a low 10-15% intensity currently. Expecting to hit some ugly stages soon. Skimmer still off and nitrates around 15ppm currently.

Bit of an update. Tank was eating through 1ppm of ammonia overnight on Saturday. At that time I had a thin layer of diatomes spreading about the sand/glass/rock work (as to be expected in a new setup). Sunday i went to a LFS and got 2 snowflake bullet hole clownfish and a bottle of pods.
one clown is always swimming and looking great, the other has clamped pelvic fins but is eating, has spirts of hiding in rock and spirts of active swimming. May be stressed a little from the new environment. Think i noticed possible stringy poop from it so may try some general cure internal parasite medicine in food. (i did not QT these 2 fish, yes i know i should have and will be doing so moving forward).

Diatomes are practically gone now, i think pods are eating them up.

Update!!
Almost 3 full months since water went in. Tank has somehow missed bad algae cycles. Gone little over the top coral wise. Iv now started having to dose homemade ALK/Calcium.
