RedSea Carbon Reef-Spec and NOPOX

Hello,

total water 200l.

I used NOPOX for about 5-6month, my nitrates were not detectable by Salifert nitrate test. I used about 1.5ml nopox for my 200l system. Also I use RedSea Reef Energy A-B and my SPS very happy
My filter sock was always with small bacteria mucus And I changed him every 2 days - not big problem.

1 week ago I added Redsea Carbon (50 grams on 200 litters water), on next day I found that filter sock without bacteria mucus and i was very happy. But after week my nitrates increased up to 1-2ppm (from not detectable).

i think that carbon adsorbed NOPOX , and nopox more dont work - I'm right?

Also, when I adding ReefEnergy, should I remove carbon from sump to prevent adsorb content of reefenergy?

I don’t believe that GAC will absorb from dilute seawater solutions the very hydrophilic organics in NOPOX (ethanol, acetic acid, methanol, and isopropanol).

anyway, I removed today carbon from system. will check my nitrates after one week.

I don't believe it to be working as suggested, but let us know what happens.

FWIW, I think it is likely true to claim that most people organic carbon dosing are also using GAC. I did.

After one week as GAC has been removed my nitrated again dropped to undetectable , and on filter sock returned some bacteria mucus. Will try add GAC again in the near future
