You are proudly test filling your new aquarium with water for the first time.

After carrying buckets for a hour, you take a break and whine to your spouse:

"The dang thing is still half empty."

Ever helpful, she replies:

"No it isn't, it's half full!"

Meanwhile, your daughter, who is a budding reef chemist, announces:

"You are both wrong. It's____________________"

Fill in the blank.

Happy Reefing

As a Chemist the answer " it is at equilibrium" is right .
Hi Mr Holmes
But I have a problem,
Newly I have calculated the necessity of cacl2 and Na2CO3 for my new tank. I wrote the following formula
CaCl2(aq) +Na2CO3 (aq) <---> CaCO3(s) +2NaCl(aq)
So as you see, for each mol of cacl2 we need only one mol Na2CO3. On the other hand for 147 gr cacl2 we need only 106 gr Na2CO3. Is it right? Or I have missed something.

CaCl2 is dihydrate.
(CaCl2-2H2O) with mol weight 147 gr.
(Na2Co3) with mol weight 106 gr.

The answer is: "The tank is over-specified". At least, that's the way us engineers would answer. ;)

Full, 50% liquid, 50% gas.

Correct!

It's completely full: half with water and half with air! Aren't you glad the quarter million you spent sending me to college wasn't wasted?"

Happy Reefing!
