Imagine a reef tank with all the latest and best gear, healthy expensive fish, giant coral colonies and it's all FREE! Imagine that someone just up and decided to quit and they just wanted this beautiful system gone. All you have to do is DRIVE AND GET IT! Not likely but it should make for a good conversation! I personally was able to take advantage of a GREAT, not free, deal that included some of what I mentioned and I drove about 400 miles one way to tear it down, bring it home and set it up! What about you? Let's talk about it!

1. How far would you be willing to DRIVE to pick up the aquarium deal of a lifetime?

2. How far have you actually driven for a great reefing deal?

1. I am limited due to the fact I have a young one who doesn't do well over 2 hours in the car. So, 60 miles max atm.

2. .... I'm jealous of those who get those lucky deals.
IF ONLY A reef deal would show up. Now ask me, when was the last time with in a hundred miles did a reef deal show up? That was last year and why I joined this forum. The guy lives 2 and a half hours from me. Awesome corals. Hopefully when he has some colonies ready I can go snag some. I missed out last december.

Let's see... Drove to ReefPalooza in Chicago... 'bout 500 miles each way.

Drive to KC, StL, Tulsa... all pretty regularly. Something like 200 miles away.

Ain't a lot of reefing stuff available in Buffalo, MO, and I dislike buying without being able to see the animal in person... so... I drive.

534 miles round trip (Irvine to Las Vegas), but then again it was for a quick vacation. Just happened to come across a great deal.

I drove about 150 miles once to break down a whole tank just because I wanted one coral that was in it. The guy was selling his house and needed the tank emptied but didn't want to pay someone to break it down, he did have one nice torch that I really liked.
About half way there(after I told the gentleman I was on my way) the guy texts me a says that someone offered him $500 for the piece of coral I wanted and that he was going to take that instead of selling the whole tank for $500 but that he could offer me the rest of the tank for $400.
I told him that I was no longer interested in the rest of it and that I would no longer be taking down the whole tank as the only way the labor was worth it to me would be if I got that one coral. The rest of the livestock was basic at best and lots of softies that I wasn't interested in. About half way through trying to figure out how to make a U turn and go back home he calls me again and says he dropped the deal with the other guy and that I should come by and break the tank down.....
Man was this a long day LOL
