I'm a sucker for tangs. Always have been and always will be. But we are limited in how many and what types we house in our reefs by tanks sizes, other inhabitants etc. But that won't keep us from talking about them today! :)

1. How many tangs (surgeonfish) do you have in your reef tank now?

2. What tangs do you have and if you're comfortable with it tell us what size tank you have?

I have 3 a foster Blue tang who out grew his original 100 gallon, a yellow tang (who’s a bully) and a flame fin tang I just added. My tank is 420 gallons and I have foxface, freckled hawk fish and a masked blue spotted ray. :)

I keep 2 tangs currently in a 220 gallon, looking for some more, but a large blue tang and a sailfin.

I have a naso, sohal, blue hippo, powder blue, sailfin, and purple in a red sea XXL 750. Never had a algae outbreak, my nitrates never went above 3ppm and my phosphates hand around 0.00-0.02. I got them all when they were small and they grew up togther. I maximized swimming space by putting 3 Island rock structures so it is like 3 circles within the large rectangular swimming space.. The sohal only gets aggressive during feeding but the naso quickly puts him in place, but other than that it is very peaceful.

I currently have one in my 75 gallon that's about to get a new home in my 120. Her name is Karen and let me tell you the name fits! She's in everyone's business! She's a sailfin tang and I would like to add another type of tang and wouldn't mind a recommendation.

Yellow, blue and purple in my S-500. No aggression as they were introduced small and at the same time.

Had 5 last week but now down to four. Lost the Powder Brown but still have a Hippo, Purple and two Yellow Tangs. No problems in the 180.

4 yellows, 2 nasos, 1 chevron, 1 black tang, 1 yellow eye cole, 1 bristle tooth, 1 scopas, 1 carribean blue.

I have about 12 in my 1000. If they start fighting, it means one of the auto feeders is empty. Usually, the smallest yellow will get singled out by the others and then the other tangs will join in.

I'll bomb them with food and re-arrange some decorative urns that I keep in the tank for that reason, which seems to stop the aggression. So far, things have been peaceful for about six months.

Having a Sailfin (missing her dorsal) in a 125 gallon, i personally wouldn’t recommend another tang. Eclipse is 8” nose to tail and thick. She gets along with her tank mates but that doesn’t include any other tangs.
