A guy on the big 27 page Klir review thread said Coralvue is still replacing old cages, just email or call. Another guy on the same thread said he email them and got an auto response back saying they got flooded by the hurricane. Might be awhile.
Mitchell.
Emailed Coralvue and got a response from Angie. She apologized for the late response since they are moving to a new warehouse and there are complications from the hurricane. She asked me if I had a proof of purchase for my Klir filter. I explained to her I bought my Klir from Synergy Reef Systems with a custom sump I ordered from them at the same time. This was Synergy’s first sump compatible with the Klir. Synergy bought a Klir specifically for the reason to obtain measurements from it for future building of Klir compatible sumps. They were done with the Klir when I ordered the sump and offered to sell the Klir to me as well. This is the story I told Angie and she remembered the story and me from a previous correspondence about replacing a faulty Klir motor. She said she will replace the cage to the Klir. A simple little email I sent saved me from paying $200 to replace the Klir.

Found a really great one at HarborFreight. A 2” bench top cut-off saw. Cuts up to 1/2” thick. Perfect for 1/4” acrylic tubing. Most people score the acrylic tubing with a sharp object then bend it until it breaks clean on the score but doesn’t actually break clean on the score. Breaking on the score leaves a jagged edge that won’t work with push connect fittings. The jag causes the connection to leak. This saw leaves a clean square cut.

I want to drill a couple small holes in my sump. One for the optical sensor to control the Klir with the Apex. I plan to use 60* point Acrylic Point Drills brand bits. With 6 sizes of bits starting with the smallest and working my way up. From 1/8” bit to 5/16” bit in the 6 sizes. However I will start with a bit smaller than 1/8”. This is a much smaller bit to drill the pilot hole. It is not specifically designed for acrylic. Even though the thickness of the material is 1/8” I want to take all precautions. This is on a very expensive sump and I have had a bad experience working with acrylic in the past. I’m worried about cracking, chipping, and melting. This video is giving me inspiration.

In the video above the guy grinds a sharper point on a bit. I tried this on a regular grinding wheel and the bit shattered. So I tried this little sharpener. Much slower.

Its really coming along! When should we expect to see water?
@Jeffcb thanks for the comments, I really enjoy your two builds. Can’t say anything about water yet but the move we’re looking at 2 to 4 months from now. Definitely February at the latest for the move. Got a confirmation from the landlord !!!!!!

I will be dosing 7 additives with the BRS PHARMA Hybrid ACK method which is a hybrid of BRS and Tropic Marin Balling Method. The Balling Method was invented by Tropic Marin and further improved, simplified, and made more economical by BRS with the hybrid method. Here's the layout:

On the Red Sea ReefDose4:
  1. BRS Calcium
  2. BRS Soda Ash (Alkalinity)
  3. Red Sea NO3: PO4-x (NOPOX) (carbon source to lower nutrients)
  4. Tropic Marin COMPONENT C (minor elements)
On the BRS 1.1mL/min doser:
  • BRS Magnesium 2-Part Maintenance.
On a DOS/DDR combo inside a refrigerator:
  1. Red Sea Reef Energy AB+ (coral nutrition)
  2. Seachem Entice (food flavor to promote feeding frenzy dosed into water column)
Also in making large adjustments for major elements I'll have BRS Sodium Bicarbonate and BRS Magnesium General Adjustments both in gallon jugs with pumps where I can just dose by hand by pouring directly into a high flow area of the water column. Sodium Bicarbonate can also be dosed in large amounts by hand to raise pH. Soda Ash is NaCO3 whereas Sodium Bicarbonate is NaHCO3.

Had a Telnet-phone session with NS today. I’ve had no connection to Fusion for over a week. I work with Luis again today and have so many times. He’s great to work with. We got the main unit connected with the 12V p/s but not with the 12V disconnected and EB832 only for p/s. With that situation a lot of modules were showing no status lights. Then with the EB8 only for p/s, all modules status lights on and show connected to Fusion. This puzzled me and made me think something wrong with the EB832. Luis said there could be a break in the AquaBus ports. He said when I get time go through each module AquaBus chain connection one by one myself and see if I can find a break.

Drilled a hole through the sump wall and installed an Apex optical water sensor. I removed the stock sensor from the Klir which plugs into the Klir controller and now the Apex reads the water level in the sock section for total Apex control. However I still retained the stock Klir motor but will have it controlled by the Apex energy bar. I totally removed the Klir controller from the scene.

Here is the nylon wingnut on the backside of the sensor. I used a nylon screw and custom 3D printed little bracket for the sensor. Plastic to avoid rusting metal parts.

Tried a stencil from Printed 3Dparts. No etching here. I want to have been dosing for awhile and to be sure what I’m using before I do any glass etching. Not to waste Voss bottles they’re expensive.

Thinking of mounting my gyres vertical, one in each back corner where the yellow lines are. And maybe an Apex WAV where the blue circle is.

Adding an IKEA cabinet to the left side of the stand. Where I’ll put the dosing vessels, doser and maybe more some electronics there from the congested stand cabinet.

I bought 70 pounds of of this Pukani dryrock just before they discontinued it. It’s a lot of rock in volume since it’s very porous. I got very large pieces with one being big as a beach ball.

I found a purposed bit for impact drivers that can drill concrete. Much tougher than your ordinary masonry bit.

After drilling strategic holes in the Pukani, I will insert these acrylic rods.

Then set this special mortar to hold the rock structure together.

What sump is that? I remember you posting it before but can't seem to find it.
@Skibi that’s a Synergy Reef Systems 26” sump with filter socks as opposed to their 26” sump with refugium chamber designed for the Triton Method. And then I had this sump custom modified by shaving 2 inches off the length. This shortening gave me quite a bit more room for electronics in the cabinet.
