I posted a thread the other day about "How to propagate (frag) corals with limited tank space" but today I want to talk about your frag racks and what's on them! Fragging and trading/selling coral frags is like a hobby within the hobby, similar to photography, and provides a way for us reefers to make some extra hobby money or to use as currency for acquiring nicer coral. It's the currency of reefers! So today let's talk about it!

1. Do you have a frag rack right now and what types of corals are you currently growing out?

2. What is the purpose of you growing out coral frags? Money, Trading, Gifts for Rev etc?

3. Will you show us a photo of your frags you are growing out?

Growing out zoas to share with people in my local club, growing some @Battlecorals frags a bit before adding them to my rock, and just growing frags so I can experiment with different placement of the same zoa.

my tank is a frag and display tank so I always have frag racks in

I love corals, even if there frags but I really don't like the look of frag rack in the tank. it just takes away the natural look for me... IDK I know it more $$ and space for a frag tank then you have to cycle it and get it going before they will grow out. maybe the answer for me is a in sump frag space and for the love of GOD lets keep those racks out of the DT! haha

of course just my humble option...lets see once my tank fills out and its time to frag if I can take my own advise.

I have a qt coral system that I throw frags in when I need to. I will trade, give away or bring to local store. I do not grow them out on purpose generally. Just if corals frag themselves, I break something or it is getting too large for system.

:)

I think you put the right title on this thread. Reefer currency. As our tanks get full what better way to help offset the hobby than to make room in our tanks and sell a frag or trade it for something you need, want or don't have. Even taking frags in on a trade that you don't want you are probably able to find someone else that does. I haven't been doing this very long, 3 years, and already been able to swap frags for plenty of things i need or just things i wanted. You get to meet some really cool people that share your interest in the process to.

I will add pics later when i get home. At work hard at it right now. lol

Although I only have a few right now, I will be fragging some in the next few weeks. I sell or trade. Sometimes I just give them away.

Santa is bringing me one of these. I like the natural look also. My wife ordered it today.
