Hey,
setting up my first saltwater Aquarium ever and I got a few questions for experienced hobbyists especially regarding the equipment I got.
I only plan on keeping Soft/LPS corals and inverts no fish.

SPECS:
45x45x45cm/17x17x17? 20g/90l white glass tank
EHEIM Heater 75w
Red Sea Reef LED 50
Tunze nanostream 6040 with controller
Tunze comline filter 3162
Tunze Skimmer 9004

Questions:
1. Do I even need mechanical filtration?
2. Is the light sufficient to keep LPS corals?
3. Where should I place the pump? Right now its at the front right but it looks pretty ugly there.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I’m not familiar with that light, but as to the other question, if you really and truly are not going to have any fish, then you might be able to get away without any mechanical filtration. Unless of course you will be feeding your corals heavily with certain ‘dirty’ foods.

IMO if you plan to have a system with no fish you will have nutrient issues bottoming out due to not feeding the fish that are not there.

About 2 years ago I took all my fish from my main system that was full of corals before I didn’t know any better to put them in a different system so about 3 weeks go by and now my corals are suffering. Well duh I haven’t fed the tank in 3 weeks went from 5 cubes a day to 0 now nitrates and phophates are 0 and I started to loose corals till I got fish in system again to equal it out. So make sure you have Hanna url phophate and nitrate hr testers

I would honestly suggest you do keep some fish in your tank for the denitrifying bacteria that will inhabit your rock and sand. Plus the fish are really something to view. You can keep it basic and just get a pair of standard clowns or get some black storm clown fish. The nitrates those fish will produce from waste will aid in keeping your corals healthy when kept at acceptable levels. Also to answer your question,
Yes you will need mechanical filtration.
I'm not familiar with your light but I'm sure it will grow zoas and mushrooms.
A lot of reefers keep their pumps on the side since you have a cube without a rear sump you can place it on the back. If you haven't already filled your tank with water I would suggest painting the rear outside glass black. It will make your corals and live stock stand out against a black backdrop.
