Do you have multiple networks through your router? For instance, mine has 2.4ghz and 5ghz. If the pi and the device im trying to connect to it with are on the different networks they will not see each other

Good - point and yes... i will have a look.
I have 3G and 5G option.

Pi is set to 3G - slower but stronger.
PC is on 5G - weeker signal but stronger..

Have changed the PC to 3G... bugger same... no connection with puTTy
current IP is 192.168.1.4
so that is new but still nothing.

Try pinging the pi since it has a new ip, if it fails use the tracert command to see where its failing

Hi guy - and thanks for your help.
My PC is on WIFI.

Question....
In the instructions to load the puTTY / puTTy - it says to add the couple of files to the folder. As I have a screen and keyboard connected to the pi I have not done this, instead I have gone in to menu options and turned on SSH etc. Can this be a problem?

I am going to do a reload again...
I have a feeling it has to do with the .18 address like suggested but have no idea how to resolve the problem.
I do remember trying to lock the IP address months ago when a power outage or reboot the address would change and I ended up with .18 which I cant unlock?
Menu options are working just fine. Try changing the IP before reload. You can use the menu options for this too.

So tracert will show you the hops your traffic hits as you try and connect to the pi, you would run it from the pc.

what exactly is your end goal here? Ive never ran a controller off a pi before but i do have some knowledge of raspberry pi and networking. And setting up ssh on a pi is done just by adding a file to the root directory
