Can anyone id this sponge and tell me if I was stupid to remove it?

It grew because I was dosing silicates for a dino issue a while back and took over an entire cave for a tang. I pulled it out today because I saw it overtaking a coral.

It all came out in one piece, though it broke in two getting it into the bucket.

Wondering if I've made a big change to my biological filtration.
