Ricordea Yuma Stretched

Hey all. Just picked up a Ricordea Yuma, I couldn't help myself it's got a green mouth and It's as bright orange as a neon sign. I know it's got a foot on it and they move.. I added him on the bottom today after acclimation and it looks like he's stretching out. Is he just moving about, or getting used to the new tank. Every picture I see of them online or when I see them at the LFS they are all flat and growing outward, not stretching up with their foot visible. Usually when corals stretch up they are searching for more light, but it's night and all the lights are off...

Is this normal? Is he just trying to move around? Why would he be stretching up?
He was twice as stretched as this 10 min before I took the picture. He's not glued to a plug, just chillin on the rock. I have another Ricordea Florida glued to a plug that doesn't do this.

I was also wondering if it was a flow thing, he is new as of today and that's right where I put 'em, so idk if he's acclimating or trying to move about. Thank you!

It's night and today was a big cleaning maintenance day. It'll be fine for the night until tomorrow when I can try to move him, ya?

If he doesn’t look like the edges are flowing like a parachute, should be fine.

Mine almost detached so I relocated him to a calmer spot. He recovered and reattached securely after a few weeks (I had this one on a movable island rock) I then moved him to a brighter spot with low flow and he brightened and opened right up.

Thank you. It seems in store DT tanks they like the bottom of rock work, with good lighting.

Moved him around. last night he got super fat around his foot like a balloon.. I was assuming he was trying to move and was having a hard time with the flow. I moved him last night. This is him now, what do you think?

I'm not sure what you mean by "parachuting" but I can only imagine, is he doing that slightly here? it seems he is a bit rounded at the top and ends pointing down. I noticed his mouth is wide open (still adjusting?) and the tenticles are smaller around the base of his mouth. Shouldn't they be plump all the way up to his mouth?

Elevate it a little. I would not place on sandbed as there is a potential of sand to end up on it via water flow or fish and will irritate it .

At the time I did not have any plugs or rock fragments for him. I have since bought a $1 compact sand rock and put it inside a cup and put him on it to spread out in an effort to have him cling to it and then I'll move the rock around in about a week. Seems to be working great... My conch is hiding in the sand at the bottom of the pic also

Hi I had orange spot Ricordia Yuma’s in my first tank here is some pics of some ,the tank was chilled out from a power outage during a blizzard . Yes they do move and stretch to stun and kill coral that may be a threat to them . The mother of my colony moved from the sand to the top of my tank .

Does this look bad is this normal night behavior? I have a Ricordea Florda that doesn't do this. What's he doing?

Hem, I’m not sure, honestly. I guess I didn’t use the right word. If the edges were waving around wildly with the flow I’d be concerned.

To me it looks as if it’s on the mend. Yumas are allegedly more finicky than floridas. I don’t have any floridas, but have some rhodactis and some discosoma and the yuma is certainly more finicky than they are.

Unfortunately his skirts are now waving around like it was last night when its foot was stretching. It's doing this at night it seems, unless he's trying to feel out the new rock he's on? I'm just a perfectionist; I wanna give him the best life...

Your second pic, mine is doing that now, kinda stretching out and about, waving around. The base was fat last night around the foot like a balloon. Then during the day it kinda flattened and mellowed out, now he's back at stratching about.. it looks like mine might be having a hard time.
