Nice start! love the clean look. i wouldn't put pulls on, i prefer the cleaner look as well!

my cadlights has the "push" type doors and they may be annoying later on but for now i will enjoy it as it is...

just wondering how is that L1 doing? i'm looking to replace my cheap Chinese return pump and i was thinking S1 would be sufficient for 100G DT + 33g sump (1.5" drain / 1" return) ?! what size is your return/drain pipes?

@BoSalman It really depends on your plumbing. You'll want to calculate the head loss and then compare the head loss to the charts on ecotech's website.

I've also got 1 inch returns and 1.5 inch drains, but I'm also going to be running Triton, so I'm looking to do 10X turnover.

It's possible the S1 might be on the weak side for your setup, and you'd be better off with the M1, but it depends heavily on your plumbing. If you've got similar piping in terms of length of run, elbows, etc to what I have, then you're probably looking at about 10ft head loss with an S1. The S1 running at 100% and 10ft head loss looks like it might give you around 200gph.

If on the other hand you've got a lot less plumbing and like only 5 ft of pipe, few elbows, then maybe you're more like 6-7 ft head loss. That would allow the S1 to push closer to 500 GPH. Obviously the M1 gives you more wiggle room if your head loss is higher than anticipated.

Even if your not doing triton, I usually aim for at least 4X turnover.

I use the following site to calculate the head loss (the flow rate is in GPM, not GPH, so divide by 60)

http://www.freecalc.com/fricfram.htm

and here are the charts for the flow for the Vectras (scroll down)

Yes that's exactly what i'm doing. Currently running a 5000lpd pump, that's roughly 1320gpd divided by 20 power ranges give me around ~66gpd on each power range. I currently run it on setting no. 8 which is roughly 528gpd with zero losses.

My target is around 500-600gpd (4-5x) for the sump. This is why i was between the S1 and M1. Considering that i do run a manifold i was leaning towards the M1 more tbh just to have more room for any future plans.

My plumbing is around 9.5-10.5 ft (~3 meters) with only two 45 elbows and 3 valves and one T, so head loss is not significant? So i just take around 75-80% of the rate of the pump to calculate the required pressure/setting on the controller...

So i guess you're right on the M1 being closer to what my setup requires.

Yeah... I almost went with the M1 myself.... then realized Triton recommends 10X which is why i went up to the L1. I have to say, the L1 is amazing. It's dead silent and being able to increase and decrease flow with the turn of a knob is amazing.

Got my first shipment of live rock from TBS today! The rock looked every bit as amazing as I hoped... huge variety of life. Thanks @liverock !

Shipment came in via Southwest. TBS shipped it this morning, and it was here this evening. Quick and easy pickup at the airport cargo delivery area. 315 pounds!

TBS also did an amazing job packaging everything. No leaks, boxes in great condition. Nice thick bags and triple bagged!

I didn’t get any pictures of the rock before putting it in the tank since I was worried about having it in the air too long. But here it is in the tank at the moment. More pictures soon once it clears.

Nothing but good things to say about my NYOS Quantum 160. Turned it on 4 hours after adding the live rock and bacteria per instructions and it’s already skimming great.

Here it was earlier being assembled. Love the build quality on it, and it’s also very quiet.

Captured my mantis shrimp today. Took out his rock into a bucket and poored a can of Perrier into his hole.... and out he popped. Going to bring him to the LFS for a trade in.

These nyos are great. Had a bad case of the micro bubbles for awhile with mine but once I got her broken in she’s been running great ever since

As promised here are some quick videos. One is more of a full tank shot, the other is some closeups. Still figuring out how to best keep everything in focus.
