I think my little life is more beneficial to the system than detrimental oh I did not mention the aptasia that reside in the filters but not the tank and I do not care about what grows on the glass as long as the small inhabitants in the system thrive on it. That monti is not the only coral that does well.

Is the filter in the photo the only one it may be possible that the water flow is not enough and did you start with all dry rock or some dry and some live? I have a 15 gallon tank that has manmade live rock two 30 gallon per hour hang on aqua clear filters and a power head with an adjustable pulse and flow rate. The light is an led system. What type of water do you mix your salt with? I use nature’s ocean sea water and change 2 gallons per week and do not use a protein skimmer or any type of filter material the only thing in the filters is ceramic tubes and a thin sand bed for the substrate and I have had good results.
That is the only hob filter I have. Rated for 75 gallons. I do have 2 powerheads as well that I run at 60%.

i have another job I was planning on switching out and running but I may run them both as some has recommended. I didn’t start with 95% dry rock so algae bloom was not surprising.

I will say, the algae I left in the tank is almost eradicated at this point. Gonna add some more smaller snails and maybe a few more crabs as well to keep it down!
