I have some old live rock I decided to use and have it cycling in a bucket of saltwater. Do I need to do more than that or is it going to be ok without a heater ? Do I need to do anything else besides waiting?

Depends on the temperature, you don't want it to be too cold (or hot).

And yeah, rather than waiting, just test the cycle like you would normally - dose 2ppm ammonia, see how it is processed.
