Hi,

Over me, I live in the Netherlands recently moved to our new house. Due to the pandemic we sold our old house a bit to soon, so we had to stay in a temporary rental until our new house got build.

Sadly on my last RSM the kit seem broke just before we moved out and created a disaster.

On the other hand I was lucky to move my corals to a friend before it broke and my fish back to my LFS.

video of the cracked tank

redsea was helpful and help me replace the broken tank for a new one.

old tank

My favorite fish is an Opistognathus Rosenblatti.
Had one for several years and I want it back as my central piece fish.
I want to achieve this by having allot of ground service and man made hiding places.

The theory is that i can give it a good and fulfilling live.

For the floating scape I started with some aquarium glas which I kitted to one whole and kitted it to the background of the rsm.

After that I created a shape of pvc tubing which has multiple entry’s, I use mainly real reef rock with the patented bacteria coating as it’s very heavy and has concrete like property’s that way it’s easy to handle with tools .
Along the way I was figuring out what worked

I use the rock with pvc tubing as an anchor to keep the glass plate up and support the load of the rest of the scape.

here are some pictures of that process
I use a grinder to carve out the middel of the stones so I can slide them on the glass.

Currently the tank is cycling and I am trying to figure out and expand the habitat a bit more.
I am thinking about some more pvc tubing
At first whole tubing but now I am thinking maybe half tubing to create some more hiding spaces

Currently in the ugly face of the cycle, I started with dr Tim’s and the cycle is complete.
Life has still to come and I am taking my time.
I should have done the cycle without lights but I could get an cheap torch so it’s doing as test coral. Can’t wait until I can get my own corals back.

It’s been awhile,

I am still sitting out my ugly fase especially when I got like phytoplankton outbreak.
Due to adding some dr Tim’s reef defense and adding expired bacteria.

after 4 weeks of looking at green milk like substance I decided it was enough.
Got my self an helix max 2.0 18watt.

its been running now for 4 days and works wonders.

I removed the UV as the water is crystal clear. since the UV does not fit in the sump area ill just use it occasionally.
ill do one more water change and clean some of the algae out and then after more than a year i can finally get my corals back. man i cant wait.

these are the corals who survived the year + at my friends house. Sadly my most expensive corals did not make it. I do not blame my friend though as he did his best and over a year is a long time. I did send him a bit of a financial compensation each month. So all is well, I have plenty of room left for new corals :)

anyway best is not to get to attached to you’re corals. If you are moving long term just sell them and buy them a new.

Allot of corals like Duncan and hammer corals are about to be banned from import in Europe.

I managed to get an cheap hammer coral.

pretty happy how it shines under the hydra lights.
