Dinos????

With the significantly increased feeding I stated getting these brown patches that blow off very easily with a turkey baster. This just stared a few days ago

Kind of looks like half dinos half diatoms. Do you have a scope?

This ended up being Prorocentrum Dinos, but I was luckily able to completely beat them in less than 2-weeks. My Battlecorals Acros and TSA Hammer are all looking good. My tenuis are looking very happy so I just bought this nice Tenuis today on a random @SBB Corals auction they held as a Pre-Live sale test. I plan to buy some more from SBB this weekend too. I'm also looking for a really nice torch and from then on out, mostly acros. I'll post pics of this frag I bought tonight when it comes in, and whatever other corals I buy this weekend. Here is the WYSIWYG picture from their website.

Glad to see things are settled enough to survive through problematic algaes/bacterial imbalance. I too made it through some patches, but luckily have only lost 2 corals. Look forward to seeing your tank thrive!!!
Cheers

Shane has some awesome looking stuff for sure. A little more delicate than your standard SPS varieties but worth the risk.
I also got this from Shane at SBB this weekend. This will be my centerpiece LPS amongst all of the sticks. I'll post some of my own pics once they get delivered.

And now for some updates on my BC acros and parameters.

The BC Double Rainbow is turning out to be much nicer than the BC Disney Dopel, so far...
Now if I could only figure out how to get the yellow color at the base of the polyps on the BC Double Rainbow to come back, any suggestions? Maybe just time.

And my parameters as of today.... Nutrients are a bit high from getting rid of the dinos, but I have No Algae! Even the glass is staying cleaner now than when I bottomed out nutrients. My alk has been stable around 7.8, so I'm going to increase my Alk/Cal dosing time again.

Hard to see:
Alk = 7.5
PO4 = 0.28
NO3 = 14.0

I got my SBB package today:

Super excited to have this as my centerpiece coral at the bottom of my tank.

My parameters have been dialed in lately. Pretty happy living around this range…

When my white lights kick on, sometimes I wonder if my ATI 8-bulb T5 with ReefBrite XHO is too powerful up top. The fixture is 8.5” off water surface and this acro is about 15” below the surface…..Double Rainbow when the white bulbs kick on for full spectrum. Does it look pale? Although my nutrients have been stable lately they have not dipped below what they are at now in 2-months. Also, it doesn’t look pale under natural sunlight.

Wow - which iodine brand?

I recently had a high report here as well and I thought I was underdosing.

Brightwell Iodion. It is a potassium iodide. I'm trying to stay calm, because my corals look pretty good with good PE. I will do a 20% water change on Saturday and STOP dosing without testing!

What brand were you using and how high was your iodine?

Seachem reef iodide. 148.0 µg/l

Yea I’d go slow on bringing it down, but I do think high iodine levels can damage coral. I had a friend who lost some goni and other random coral after overdosing iodine a ton.

I assume once your levels are back under desired range, stabilized and then close to target levels - you can then calculate the decline of the iodine level over whatever time period it is between tests. Then dose over up to the recommended amount over the same time period between ICP tests.

At least that’s what I’m planning on doing if levels are close at current dosing. But yes, likely will be underdosing for now to be safe and marginally bump it up over time.

I’m sure coralline algae and other organism changes will throw a wrench in that game plan though.

So far even my only Goni looks ok still. But definitely going to address this asap.
