Welcome! I didn't read all the replies, but if no one mention it yet, it only takes a little tiny air bubble on the arm to give a false high reading or a little bit of obstruction/scale to give a false low reading. Definitely get the read verified and consider a refractometer.

One thing I'll pitch in is once you verify that salinity, fish can handle fast drops in salinity much better than rapid rise.

So I would first lower it to around 1.30 then to 1.26. Also make sure your topping off evaporation in your tank with Filtered Reverse osmosis water, not saltwater!
