How does everyone bring their salinity up in their tanks? Mines been at 1.020 for a couple weeks now and i just did a 10 gallon water change woth RO water last friday! Im starting to mix my own saltwater in a 40 gallon trash can and thats at 1.002! Do i need to bring that up to 1.025/1.026 and put that in my tank to bring the tank salinity to 1.026? Ive tried the calculator sites and it just confused me even more! New to saltwater and never mixed my iwn salt so any advice would tons!!

I have a hard time believing your salinity is that low and everyone is still acting fine? While hyposalinity is a thing for disease it can stress inhabitants out and isn’t good for extended periods. What are you using to measure it? Did you calibrate your refractometer if you are using one? 1.024-1.026 are acceptable. I recommend 1.026 because it’s the average ocean salinity.

Mix it to 1.026 then use it for top off and after about 10 gallons you will be at 1.026 in your tank

Exactly as above. Just replace the evaporated water with mixed SW. You will slowly raise the SG to the appropriate level. Make sure that Hanna is calibrated with the proper Hanna solution. LFS calibration could very well be off.

I run my salinity at 1023. Remember to high of salinity will damage the slime coat on the fish's body. Slime coat is the only thing the fish has to protect itself. Stress is the number one killer in the aquarium business.
