I have no idea where I should post this, but I've been watching my lil fern grown rather quickly over the past week. Just so we all know, this was a live rock, live sand set up. Tuesday the 17th marked 7 weeks.

This is bryopsis algae (bad). Take it out quickly you don’t want it spreading everywhere.
If god forbid you get an outbreak I would suggest flucanzole and manual removal, it’s what worked with me best.

If you can keep it in check it’s great, just prune it back to where you want it and it is a great addition. I personally like macro algae in display tanks. If you have tangs or other fish in the future that eat algae they will wipe it out. I keep it I’m my seahorse tanks.

This is bryopsis for comparison purposes:

While it looks like it and I can see what your saying. Usually you grow the really thick mat and then it grows the fern like structure out of the mat. That stuff he has just look like Fern Caulerpa growing . If it came from real live rock it’s pretty common.

Thanks all, I actually found 2 sprouts and decided to pull them. Both were attached to a smaller rock or rubble under the sand surface. Just don't want things taking over.

7 weeks in, I can't complain. Water quality is spot on and crystal clear.
Corals as follows, Dunc, 2 Acans, 4 different Zoas, a hammer and a pulsating xen thats a week old and has doubled in size, don't mind the glass, she need a good cleaning, seems like every week and I clean it during the week too.
