Off to a great start! Running a very similar setup myself. 180 plumbed to a fish room with several tanks plumbed in.

When I started this thread I said it was going to be a SLOW BUILD… honestly thought I’d have it done and full of corrals by now… I’ll be calling custom aquariums tomorrow to get some information on lead times and overflow layout. I have to sit down when I get some time and really nail down my equipment list.
life has been a tornado lately. For this summer alone I have a vacation planned for ten days this spring, 4 long weekend camping trips, my wedding, home remodeling continuation, might have to sell my folks home and move them in with me. More building there… oh and I’m running several electrical jobs at various schools and state parks… so somehow somewhere in there I need to find time to at least get this thing built and cycling lol

It's taken me two years of research, lurking, and equipment buying to get a much less ambitious reef finally started. I still have way more unused equipment lying around than actually in use at the moment!

Don't mind the mudding, it's the sanding I can't stand. Good incentive to do a nice job the first time. Key to easy mudding is nice, even, tight joints. On butt joints, get a big knife and feather the mud out over a few layers to cover the joint nicely. Though I only have a few years experience myself. I also just skip the dry stuff and buy the pre-mixed buckets these days, and unless I'm in a hurry I use something with at least a 90 minute work time so that it doesn't dry and get unworkable too fast, but I'm not all that fast of a mudder/taper either.

So…. I’m still in process of getting quotes for the tank. Local shops are open strange hrs in the wake of Covid. And I want to at least give them a shot at beating the online shops. Even if they just buy from the online shops lol. But I’m also building my equipment list. And things are getting expensive haha. So I’m not into doing any more maintenance than I have to which leads me to auto top off Auto water changes auto dose and a Neptune controller with the testing module. After hitting the brs website I’m sitting at a gut wrenching 9000 dollars for gear and that’s with zero plumbing and no tank….. I will also be price shopping the gear through the local fish store and calling brs to try and haggle a bit. More to come soon….ish. Im going on vacation in two weeks and have other responsibilities to tend to before I leave.. like call for tux fittings for my wedding help my mother whom just had 1/3 of a lung removed transition back to home and spend as much time as I can with my 7 year old. He will also be in on this project more as time rolls on.
Tank is ordered! Unfortunately I had to downsize to a 120 to get the depth I wanted without being custom ordered. I lost a foot of viewing glass but I wanted the 24 inch depth. Im currently sitting at 10k worth of gear at brs. I’m going to call them some time this week to try to get a brake on some of it being such a large order. We will see if they want to play ball lol.

Perfect!!Room in current condition room has been trashed since I bought the home.
This is the last room in the house to get the gut.
House has dirt crawl space under it. This is why I’m having to pour a pad to build from. Floor in this room is week to begin with, so that helps justify the full gut.
The photo with the pictures in it is where the whole will be cut to view the new tank. Photos will come down and relocate. Horns will also have to relocate... to my barn per the misses wishes

Oh and it looks like page two that brs sent me via email was just a duplicate of page one…. It’s still 144 items. Got them to come down a little on some things order started at 10,345 and shipped at around 9,300ish. I called the retail service side and the guy gave me a 5 dollar coupon.. awesome thanks man. So I called the whole sale side and talked with a guy that was willing and able to give me some codes and store credits to bring the initial cost down. I told him if they work with me they are looking at a long term customer. If they knock five bucks off and say that’s the best we can do I’ll go to Amazon or someplace. So I’m glad to see they are willing to play ball when your hobby order brakes the 10k mark lol
