Soo.... I am two or three years in the hobby
Ihave an unused room in my home adjacent to our dining room/ living room. Over the winter I started thinking of things to use it for.
What I decided was a full on fish room with a 180 gallon in wall build. Tank may end up bigger in the end...
With that said It will be a fairly long build process, it will be done in phases.
I will be ripping up the floor pouring a concrete pad adding and replacing floor joists putting down new pressure treated sub floor.
don't know if i will go vinal flooring or tile, it will be a full gut remodel ill be adding pluming and a slop sink, it will have full carbon ventilation for odor control. this is going to be one heck of a build when done.
Stay tuned !!!

Room in current condition room has been trashed since I bought the home.
This is the last room in the house to get the gut.
House has dirt crawl space under it. This is why I’m having to pour a pad to build from. Floor in this room is week to begin with, so that helps justify the full gut.
The photo with the pictures in it is where the whole will be cut to view the new tank. Photos will come down and relocate. Horns will also have to relocate... to my barn per the misses wishes

Pumped to follow this one! As Crabs said, pictures make it fun for all!

My 1 opinion, 180 is WAY too small for an opportunity like this!! :p Go for a 220+, at least 30 inches deep (front to back, not tall).

Following. Don't know if you quarantine or not but if you do make sure you leave a place for that as far from DT as possible so not to cross contaminate. That would be my opinion anyway.

My apologies all!! Life came up basically the last day I posted about this project..
I'm back at it now that things have settled in my career and I have more time available outside of work.
I will be truly starting demolition on Saturday this week. I have basically been out of the hobby for a year after shutting down my last tank last summer. The room has sat vacant sense put up those first pictures. I will be updating as I go throughout this winter and hope to have the new tank up and running in 8 months. Likely to be a slow process. Very exciting to get back at it.

Also if you notice the taped off wire... it's amazing the things you find when you rip the rock off. Always wondered what that switch was for... nada apparently

Got after it good today!!
Flooring was glued to the joists
Got the floor up today and the fiberglass insulation up. Left the foam board down to help with the musty smell because I won't get back to it for a few days. If I decide to get back in there this week I'll be pulling the nails stuck in the joists. And trimming the rest of the remaining osb around the room. Next week I plan on being ready for concrete! I want the floor back down before snowfall.

Well being I can't leave things alone I went back in this morning got down to the crawlspace. Much to my happiness the wall that the tank will be behind sits on top of the foundation pillions. So the plan is to form up a pad, hand mix some Bags of concrete and sister new joists as well as add a couple extras. I will then run 4x4 pt. Posts down to the pad and fasten them in place with hangers. I will then be ready for the slop sink and possibly a toilet. Wife said " sense your doing all this anyway you might want to add a toilet so you can stop blowing up mine... " plus it will add the option down the road to convert to a full 2nd bath should we decide to sell and move. Not likely but never say never!
Might get as far as framing the pad this week however we are as of now going to the Adirondacks this weekend to check out the fall foliage. Soo probably won't get anything done this week
Anyone have any reason a 4 inch thick pad is not enough??
Most driveways are only 4 inch.. ‍♂️

Hahahah yea my father was a general contractor and I am a union electrician. Worked as a teen for my dad doing residential work aka houses garages and barns.
Spent the next 12 years as an industrial tech. Then the last 6 years as an electrician.
Where we live its common for people to have many talents.

Well that makes much more sense haha, very useful set of skills to have in this hobby, very jealous. I've still been putting off hooking up a new CO2 scrubber.
