Well it is no longer a 'live' rock Stoney. FedEx just updated shipping to show arriving Monday. They shipped it Thursday and it was supposed to be overnight to today. Since I'm assuming they ship the rock wrapped in wet newspaper rather than water (that's what I've read for live rock that is shipped), it will all be quite dead 5 days later in a dry box.

I just emailed them.

I had that happen with gulf live rock once, I lost some crabs and other critters but the rock was very much alive still.

All kinds of macros, bivalves, sponges, and even some coral hitchhikers made it.

I mean it's not freezing cold where you are so maybe.

It's held up in Illinois. Not freezing here, but I doubt it's warm in a shipping facility there. I'm hoping they ship me another rock, even if things could survive. I could use a other 11 lbs. I'm at ~140lbs of rock for the 200. I don't know if I need more, but might be light. We'll see.

Haha I typed "button scoly"? Then read the post to edit it. I have two Croc Island scolies right now. Ive had buttons but lost them.
Cool!

I had two, then I changed placement and put one on a rack. Slightly too close to my torches. And all was fine for a few days. Then the torch extended a little farther than normal and got one of my scolys and it was dead in less than a day.

So. This is my replacement. Red for red. But the new one has some cool accents

My other one is farther back and harder to get the detail in a photo

The build table is piling up. This doesn't include all of the rock (getting another 100lbs of Marcos reef saver tomorrow) and 140lbs of sand bags I have on the floor (getting another 40lbs). I'm really not sure how much sand I'll need. Going with the rule of 1lb per gallon, and I need extra as I figure out my garden eel setup. I really liked @billyocean 's ATL reef club's idea with a container. I think rather than use a plastic container, I'm going to make one out of blocks like this and add rock rubble to the outside.

If I glue these together and epoxy them, I can make a sand tight container that will be able to biodegrade the eel's poop. The one downside for what your buddy did is that I think a plastic container will just accumulate their waste.

I was even thinking of leaving a "vent" at the bottom that goes into the normal sand bed, but I can't think of a way to prevent it from just "leaking" out until the container is empty of sand.

Also I'm thinking of doing this in a more aquascape design than just a container going upright. We'll see.

where can you get the eels?
