I like af comp 123. Mix yourself. Then balance with icp from there. But that's on a 120 with 17g frag tank!
I mean my total volume is 170g with sump. I have to say I’m really lucky brs sent me that 15g ATO. Been no fuss or issues with topping off. Which is great that all salinity swings are a thing of the past (and burning out pumps). I’m trying to plan for the future on dosing. I don’t care how I do it… I just want to be pointed in a direction but I’ll look at af 123! Right now I’ve been using Red Sea concentrated alk.

As long as there’s no more major boneheaded stuff by me… I think I’m starting to finally steady my tank out.

Just saying only thing I use red sea is a filter roller or 3. Alk test sent me to 12 dkh when shooting for 8.

Theres some hesitation on thr co2 scrubber amongst the higher end acro keepers as to whether or not to use one. Kalk isn't necessary but that's a camp either wanna roll with or dont. You could look into air exchangers which would be a solution for low ph as well.
What’s the hesitation to the co2? Fluctuates too much? Or gives off false numbers?

I’ll def look into the air exchangers.

When I had my successful tank in Florida I got lucky because of my house wasn’t sealed that well so I had lots of oxygen in the house but now with this new house I have hurricane doors and windows so I’m basically living in a air tight chamber.

When you say air exchangers what exactly do you mean? Sorry for all the questions I know it can get annoying.

Easiest way for alk is baking soda
Buy a tub and use dosing calculator.

For 170g then just 2 tsp = .5 dkh

So figure out how long to drop from 8.5 to 8 and add 2 tsp stirred into some rodi when needed. Easy and cheap

Yeah. I hear ya. I just know that I’m gonna have to eventually in the near future be dosing heavier than 4ml of alk and that’s it to be successful.

I went heavy on softies this order and hardy coral - I need to get a solid balance going. I said it before but I really am sitting out from more coral for the time being and going to focus on slow and stable…. No more major mistakes or errors just have it run.

I have the Dino’s seemingly receding. Cyano is on the sand. I’m done with chemicals. It’s time to really let this thing ride. Im trying to follow as zero also had said, get the necessary gear for the tank. The last gear I need at dmp’s and blues. While I know I rant complain and seem to constantly have something going wrong I AM trying to lock it down. I feel like I’m getting closer to that goal.

What prompted the dosing? Low nitrates?
No.

It was based simply on the fact that corals can use it easier than nitrates. There is less work involved for them. It was just to give the corals easier access to nutrients. At least this is the case with the 75g. My nitrates on that tank run between 10-20. The 100g is still too new but I did bottom out my nitrates. I think to raise them it would be better to dose straight nitrates then ammonium bicarbonate.

So I guess I’m just trying to give the corals options. I think if you have any corals that are struggling this would definitely be better for them as if they don’t have to expend the energy to convert nitrate to ammonia they may have a better chance at pulling through.

Oh. That is pretty easy. And cheap. Screenshotted - thank you. So how many gal of Rodi do you typically mix your baking soda in?

It doesn’t matter. Enough to dissolve it

If you put 2tsp baking soda in 1 gallon rodi or 2 cups rodi - and pour it all in, either way the same 2 tsp is being added to the overall volume.

Super simple way to make corrections or to maintain

I would buy it by the tub. Get one in a tub with a plastic seal lid so it stays air tight. It will last months and is cheap

I did this for years. You get in a groove and if after a few months your a little low on dkh you know you can add 1 tsp for .25 dkh to make small corrections one time or to your overall dose amount

You don’t need a lot. I had a tumbler cup, little bigger than a keg cup, and I could dissolve 1tsp in that. I would suspect a quart would be fine for 2 tsp.

When in doubt, listen to Billy and Baby Shark. They have a ton of practical knowledge and experience and are always willing to share it. You just have to trust the process and go with it.

Lots of ways to run a tank. Find someone(s) whose tank you like and ask them if you can copy their methods. Hopefully then you can emulate their success.
Fwiw all I know comes from other peoples knowledge so it's not like you're actually having to listen to me if that makes one feel better. Lol
